Kelvin Gorrie’s journey into the world of yachting and marine industry expertise is one that spans continents and decades. Born and raised in South Africa, Kelvin developed an early passion for fun, adventure, and the great outdoors—values that shaped his approach to both life and work. After completing his schooling, Kelvin pursued a degree in Engineering Surveying just before he was conscripted into the South African National Defence Force, where he served in the 47th Survey Squadron.
Once his military service ended, Kelvin set sail on his true passion for yachting, diving, and fishing. His adventures began in 1997 when he delivered a vessel to the Caribbean and went on to captain various power and sailboats within the luxury charter market. His seafaring journey also took him to Taiwan, where he oversaw the construction of a new Horizon yacht for a British owner and delivered it to the Virgin Islands. His extensive maritime experience has taken him to South Africa, Brazil, the Caribbean, the Bahamas, the USA, New Zealand, and Australia—each journey adding to his wealth of knowledge and expertise in the industry.
In search of new opportunities in the marine industry, Kelvin moved to Australia where he sold high-end cranes, davits, and Passarella’s to the superyacht market. This experience opened doors to the brokerage industry, where he soon became adept at brokering vessels, both locally and internationally. From New Zealand to the USA and the Mediterranean, Kelvin’s expertise in multihulls, coupled with his ability to connect buyers and sellers, soon made him a respected figure in the industry.
Over the years, Kelvin has sold a wide array of multihulls, gaining valuable insights into different brands and types of vessels. His deep-rooted love for the marine world and his dedication to creating smooth, enjoyable experiences for his clients led him to reconnect with Todd Holzapfel at Alexander Marine Australia. Together, they form a dynamic team, helping clients live their dreams on the water.
Kelvin’s qualifications are as impressive as his career. He holds a National Diploma in Engineering Surveying, along with certifications as an MED 3, Master Class V Commercial Skipper, Yacht Master, and Dive Master. With over 80,000 nautical miles under his belt, his practical knowledge and experience in the marine industry are unparalleled.
In his role as Yacht Sales Executive for the Alexander Marine New Zealand branch, Kelvin continues to help clients buy and sell vessels across the Asia-Pacific region, bringing his years of experience to every transaction. His hands-on involvement in the entire sales process, from valuation to buyer negotiations, ensures a stress-free experience for all parties.
