DESCRIPTION & DETAILS
Alexander Marine's global yacht acquisitions & superyachts division are pleased to present the 2024 Sunreef 80 Eco ‘The Idler’ to the market.
Following our recent success representing the buyer of a 2021 Sunreef 70 sailing catamaran, we’re proud to introduce ‘The Idler’ - the latest and most technologically advanced Sunreef 80 Eco to date. Launched in 2024, this exceptional sailing catamaran is the result of a 2023 vision: to create the world’s most advanced luxury cruising catamaran, engineered not only for self-sufficient bluewater cruising but also with the flexibility to charter when the owners are not aboard.
From the moment you approach ‘The Idler’, her sleek custom-coloured hull catches the eye, a unique Sunreef sunset metallic shade designed to conceal the solar cells while elevating their visual appeal, striking a perfect balance between form and function.
Stepping aboard via the generous hydraulic platform, which doubles as a swim platform when not underway, you're welcomed by a beautifully appointed alfresco dining space. A long table accommodates 8–10 guests, complemented by a reversible sofa perfect for soaking in the views at sunset. Additional lounging space to starboard offers even more room to unwind. Clever design provides discreet crew access to the lower galley and mess area to port, ensuring guest privacy and uninterrupted comfort. The Williams Jet Tender, housed on the hydraulic platform, offers exhilarating speeds up to 50 knots thanks to its powerful 200hp jet drive.
The main saloon invites you into a light-filled, beachside inspired sanctuary. To starboard, a large wraparound lounge sets the scene for lazy afternoons or movie nights, complete with a hi/lo 55" TV and a Yamaha sound system. To port, a spacious dining area offers the ideal spot for entertaining, working remotely, or retreating indoors in air-conditioned comfort.
Forward of the saloon, a compact but well-equipped galley serves guests effortlessly, with a multi-function tap delivering boiling, chilled, still and sparkling water, and ample refrigeration for extended cruising.
From the helm station located to starboard, you get your first real insight into what makes ‘The Idler’ a truly next-generation yacht. The entire vessel operates in 24/7 silent running mode, made possible by a cutting-edge solar power and hydro-regeneration ecosystem. The huge lithium battery bank, charged exclusively by Sunreef’s integrated solar panels and sailing-driven hydro generation, means she can cruise for days or even weeks without burning a drop of fossil fuel. Every onboard system is managed with ease via an intuitive digital control interface.
Descending into the starboard hull just aft of the helm, you’ll find the owner's retreat. The master suite is the embodiment of indoor-outdoor living, with a transformable balcony door bringing the outside in and offering uninterrupted ocean views from the comfort of the king-size bed. The generous ensuite at the aft end of the suite adds a layer of luxury and privacy. Forward is a well-appointed double guest cabin, also with its own ensuite.
In the port hull, the VIP suite awaits with a queen-size berth and an expansive ensuite aft. Forward is another identical double guest cabin, ensuring balanced comfort for all aboard. Discreet crew cabin for up to two is located aft of the starboard hull, with a dedicated mess area forward of the main galley.
Accessible via the cockpit, the full-size professional galley, the largest available on any Sunreef 80 — leaves no detail spared. Fitted with top-of-the-line Miele appliances including a six-element induction cooktop, oven, coffee machine, full-size American fridge/freezer, dishwasher, it’s a chef’s dream. Forward is a crew mess area, featuring a dedicated Raymarine display here allows crew to monitor onboard systems and security, a space for the crew to relax and enjoy their meals and a separate Miele washer and dryer.
As you ascend to the expansive flybridge, you’re immediately struck by the volume and elevation, among the best in its class. A central U-shaped lounge with a fixed table creates a social hub, enhanced by two swing chairs that invite hours of relaxation. Forward, the owners opted for elegant, rounded furniture instead of traditional sunpads, creating a more curated and luxurious feel. The bar area is equipped for entertaining with a grill, sink, ice maker, and fridge. Twin carbon steering wheels and a second helm station ensure perfect visibility underway.
Of course, this yacht’s flybridge is not just about leisure. ‘The Idler’ is a proper sailor’s catamaran, and her rigging is designed for serious performance. Developed in collaboration with North Sails and their team of designers including Olympic/Volvo Ocean Race legend Ian Walker and Niel Mackley, her sail wardrobe includes a revolutionary North 3Di mainsail, 3Di Genoa and Staysail, Helix Furling Reacher, G2 Gennaker, Tradewinds sail, and even a Parasailor — ideal for transatlantic passages. All sails are controlled via electric winches at the mast base, with a sophisticated double halyard and sheet system allowing seamless transitions between headsails. A custom gaff lock system supports the square-top mainsail and ensures precise tension control under load.
As a finishing touch, ‘The Idler’ carries a curated collection of water toys to elevate life at anchor, offering entertainment for guests of all ages.
In every respect, ‘The Idler’ is a masterclass in modern, eco-conscious sailing luxury. Whether crossing oceans in silence or enjoying serene coastal anchorages, she redefines what it means to cruise sustainably without compromise. She is, quite simply, the most advanced Sunreef 80 Eco on the water today.
